On August
18, 2009 the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office became the victim of a
powerful thunderstorm that moved through the area. Within minutes
of each other two lightning bolts struck the administrative office
knocking out all power and the back up generators. The entire communications
division, including dispatch, had to be moved to the command staff
bus brought to the area for that purpose. Power was out in the building
for approximately three hours before partial power could be restored
by Gulf Power. To add to the problem the flooding in the sheriff's
office parking lot completed destroyed two automobiles.
