PRESS RELEASE
07/03/04

On 07/03/2004 , at approximately 0828 hours, Deputies Jamal Zawawi and Jera Honda were dispatched to 6385 Alpha Street in Milton , in reference to a residential structure fire with entrapment.   They arrived on scene within one minute of being dispatched.   An elderly white male was sitting on a swing in front of the residence with a small child in his arms.   He stated that he was able to get his granddaughter out, but he did not have the strength to get his wife out. Putting their own safety in jeopardy Deputies Zawawi and Honda entered the residence which was engulfed in thick smoke.   They located a white female lying on her back in a doorway of the master bathroom.   She was unconscious and unresponsive. They were able to carry the female outside to safety.   EMS arrived on scene and assisted the Deputies.   Zawawi and Honda were treated on scene for smoke inhalation.   All three victims were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital by Santa Rosa Rural Metro for treatment.   Due to the Deputies quick and heroic actions they were able to prevent a possible loss of life.
