Sergeant
Pat Vega with the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office was honored by the
local state chapter of the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency
on July 15, 2005 for his heroic actions
in the line of duty. At that time Sergeant Vega responded to the
calls for assistance from Deputy Danny Aloy who was being attacked
on July 22, 2004 while attempting
to apprehend two fleeing suspects. His quick response was instrumental
in preventing Deputy Aloy from serious injury or death even though
Aloy was beaten into unconsciousness as it were. Sergeant Vega's
quick response saved Deputy Aloy's life while he forcibly pulled
one suspect off and placed him under arrest then administered medical
aid to all parties until Aloy could be transported to a medical
facility by helicopter where he remained for several days. His actions
earned him the distinguished "Merit Award" presented to him by Sheriff
Wendell Hall in February of 2005. Sergeant
Vega presently occupies the position of a patrol sergeant and supervises
up to six road deputies. He is also a bi-lingual officer and in
that capacity he serves as a lead instructor for the "Survival Spanish
for Law Enforcement Officers" course. Sergeant Vega began his law
enforcement career in 1996 and has been with the Santa Rosa Sheriff's
Office since 1998. He holds an associates degree in Engineering
from Pensacola Junior College
and a bachelor's degree from Florida State University in Criminology.
He has twice received the "Deputy of the Month" award by his peers
as well as that of "Deputy of the Quarter." His personnel file reflects
eighteen (18) letters of commendation and appreciation for services
rendered to the citizens of Santa Rosa County. Sergeant Vega is
also an instructor for George Stone Law Enforcement Academy and
has taught salary incentive courses to his fellow officers in the
field.
