The
Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office Crime Scene unit presented a program
to the youth of this county concerning the procedures and methodology
used when a crime is committed. The presentation kicked off the
"Mystery Based Summer Library Program", which began on
July 9th to August 10, 2007. The program is attempting to encourage
our children to read at least thirty minutes a day and then turn
in their "reading record" at the end of the program to
receive a free paperback book of their choosing plus coupons to
local restaurants. Charlie Peters and his unit made the first presentation
on July 17th at the Milton and Navarre libraries with a second presentation
on July 19th at the Gulf Breeze and Jay libraries. The short course
presented a power point plus hands on articles concerning such topics
as fingerprinting, plaster casts, DNA evidence, etc. Sheriff Hall
encourages all of his staff to participate in these types of programs
to improve communication with the public and to educate our children
on the duties and responsibilities of our local law enforcement.
