On
August 25, 2007 Sheriff Wendell Hall and County Commissioner John
Broxson took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony at Swenson Park
where an "Ole Fashion" Community Picnic was held. A new
playground fire truck and a springy big bird rider were donated
to the park following Sheriff Hall's cutting of the ribbon. Following
the ceremony a picnic was held for approximately 75-100 people of
all ages. The Santa Rosa Shores Homeowners organized the event while
the Coast Community Church furnished the hotdog's, drinks and games
for the children. Adding to the list of contributors was the Santa
Rosa Shores Women's Club who furnished the desserts and salads.
The "Think First" organization fitted and gave away bike
helmets while CTST gave safety items away and the Santa Rosa Health
Department gave out various health items and information. To round
out the list of benefactors the Lifeguard Ambulance Service gave
blood sugar checks and the Midway Fire Department checked everyone's
blood pressure. The event displayed a willingness to contribute
time and money for the benefit of our local children while a real
community spirit was felt by everyone attending. This is the second
annual picnic held at Swenson Park and if anyone is interested in
contributing or helping out next year please contact Margaret Cunningham
at 850-932-2914.
