Man in Custody After Stabbing Incident in Navarre
On
09/12/07 at approximately 10:45 pm , Santa Rosa County Sheriff's
Deputies were dispatched to a disturbance located at 1859 Esplanade
Street, Navarre, FL. When deputies were on Esplanade Street responding
to the scene, they were flagged down by a white male subject standing
near a pickup truck that had struck a telephone pole. There was
another vehicle parked next to the pickup truck. The white male
subject, identified as John Abegg, stated that he and his brother
(Dennis Abegg) had just been attacked at a party. John Abegg told
deputies that his brother, Dennis, had been stabbed. Dennis was
located in the other vehicle that was parked next to the pickup
truck. Deputies approached Dennis Abegg and noticed that he was
covered in blood. They also noticed that Dennis Abegg had what appeared
to be three stab wounds on his left shoulder and lower back. Dennis
Abegg told deputies that he had been stabbed by a person known to
him as Christopher Bryant. Dennis Abegg was transported by ambulance
to Baptist Hospital . John Abegg told deputies that he and his brother
had gone to 1859 Esplanade Street to help a friend retrieve a vehicle.
When John and Dennis arrived, Bryant exited the residence with a
metal pipe and a knife. A fight then broke out between a number
of people who were present at the party. During this fight, Dennis
Abegg engaged in a fight with Christopher Bryant and was subsequently
stabbed. Bryant also attacked John Abegg with a pipe, striking him
in the lower back and legs. John Abegg then retreated to his pickup
truck and began to back away from the scene in his pickup truck.
While John was backing up, he struck a telephone pole. Dennis Abegg
had also retreated from the scene in a vehicle and pulled up next
to John Abegg and told him that he had been stabbed. Witnesses at
the scene also confirmed that Bryant had been brandishing a metal
pipe and a knife during the fight. Christopher Bryant was located
at the scene and taken into custody by deputies. John Abegg refused
to be transported to the hospital and told deputies that he would
go on his own.
Dennis
Abegg's injuries are not considered life threatening. Christopher
Bryant is being held in the Santa Rosa Jail on a $20,000.00 bond.
