Sheriff's Office Investigating the Murder of a Woman at a Rental Home on Navarre Beach

On September 02, 2007 shortly after 0430 hours, Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office Deputies were called to a rental home located at 7374 Grand Navarre Blvd., Navarre Beach, FL, in reference to a homicide. The caller called 911 stating that a female in the residence had been killed. When deputies arrived, they found a middle aged female deceased in a bedroom inside the rental home. The victim is from Georgia ; however her identity is not being released pending the notification of her next of kin. The rental home was being rented for the Labor Day Weekend by a large group of family and co-workers from the Atlanta area. Witnesses at the scene found the victim in her bedroom after they heard her dog barking from inside the victim's bedroom. When witnesses went to see why the dog was barking, they forced their way into the bedroom and found that the victim was deceased. Witnesses present told deputies that the alleged suspect (a male subject staying at the rental home that was involved in a relationship with the victim) was believed to have left the rental home within half an hour prior to deputies arriving on scene. Witnesses stated that the suspect left in a green Mercury SUV with Georgia plates. The description was immediately relayed to deputies throughout the area. At 0454 hours, the suspect vehicle was spotted by deputies on Highway 87 South at Highway 90 in Milton . Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and determined that the driver of the vehicle was the suspect that they were looking for in connection with the incident on Navarre Beach . The suspect was taken into custody and is currently being interviewed by investigators. His identity is not being released at this time. Investigators from the Sheriff's Office and the Medical Examiner's Office are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. No further information concerning the incident is available at this time. More information will be released concerning identities and charges as soon as it becomes available.
