Deputies Administer CPR at Courthouse

On July 9, 2007 at 0930 hours a citizen alerted deputies that a man was slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle parked outside the Santa Rosa County courthouse. Deputy James Vaughn responded and found a 69-year old male by the name of John Thomas Holmes, unconscious in his vehicle. He radioed for assistance whereupon Deputy Heath Bare arrived and helped him remove Holmes from the vehicle and lay him out on the ground. Deputy Ricky Cotton arrived with the AED unit while a fourth deputy, Jennifer Houk, called for EMS. The law enforcement team administered CPR to the victim as well as three shocks from the AED. The Milton Fire Department arrived to take over the rescue efforts from the deputies before transporting the victim to the hospital. Deputy Houk transported the victim's wife and son to the hospital as quickly as possible. All deputies receive annual CPR and AED training as part of the yearly curriculum.
