Teddy Bears for the Sheriff's Office

On Sunday October 1, 2006, the ABATE Motorcycle Club held their annual "Bears for Bears" motorcycle run. The "Bears for Bears" event invited all motorcycle riders to come and support the program by bringing a new small to medium sized stuffed animal to donate to the Sheriff's Office. These stuffed animals were brought by the riders to the Sheriff's Office, donated, and will be used by officers to hand out to children they encounter that experience traumatic situations. ABATE had all motorcycle riders show up at the Home Depot at 9:00 AM for sign-up and then rode through Milton to the Sheriff's Office on East Milton Road. More than 400 bikers participated in the event and collectively they were able to donate over 2,000 stuffed animals to the sheriff's office. Sergeant Scott Phillips stated to the media that, "the bears make it easier for us to do our job. It helps bring awareness to the community about our problems and provides a positive reenforcement of law enforcement officers."
