PRESS RELEASE

3/26/07

5 Juveniles Arrested in Reference to Vehicle Burglaries in Navarr: All Stolen Property Recovered

Five juveniles were arrested in connection with 6 vehicle burglaries that occurred during the early morning hours of March 25, 2007. The burglaries happened on Coral Street and Everglades Drive, Navarre, FL. Deputies began receiving complaints from citizens when they awoke on the 25th and found that their vehicles had been burglarized. All of the vehicles that were burglarized were unlocked at the time of the burglaries. Numerous items were taken during the burglaries, including electronics, paintball guns, cologne, sunglasses, cell phones, jewelry, and currency. One victim had $3000.00 in cash taken from their vehicle. Earlier in the morning, deputies had contact with four teenagers acting suspiciously in front of a residence on Coral Street. The teenagers told deputies that they were out playing "manhunt" which is similar to a game of tag, and that they were staying at that address on Coral Street. The juveniles were identified at that time. Due to the burglaries occurring in the same area that deputies had contact with the teenagers earlier, contact was made with the resident at the place where the juveniles were seen on Coral Street. The resident stated that four juveniles had been staying the night at his residence. The resident stated that the juveniles came back to the residence around 0530 hours and had a lot of items that did not belong to them. The four juveniles began to hide the items and also talked about where they were going to take some of the items. The homeowner gave the deputies consent to search the residence, at which time deputies located many of the items that had been taken in the burglaries the prior night. Some of the items had been picked up and brought to another location by a separate juvenile who was also located. Deputies went to their residence and found the remaining stolen items. The juveniles were interviewed and subsequently arrested on the below mentioned charges. The Sheriff's Office encourages the public to lock their vehicles and keep their valuables out of view . Most vehicle burglaries are out of opportunity and having an unlocked vehicle is inviting to potential vehicle burglars. Photographs of the suspects are attached to this email.
