On 5-19-07 , deputies and fire department personnel were dispatched to 4950 Spring Street in reference to a structure fire. While in route, deputies were informed that there might be someone still inside the home. When deputies arrived at the house, it was fully involved in flames. A person present stayed that there was an elderly male inside the house and that he was in a wheel chair and was unable to walk because he just had surgery. The Jay Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene to extinguish the fire. Once the fire was extinguished, deputies were told that a body had been found inside the front right bedroom. The deceased was identified as Phillip Hoare, 80 years old, of Jay. The investigation concerning the fire is being conducted by the sheriff's office and the fire marshal's office and is ongoing. No further information is being released at this time.
