On October 28, 2006 Sheriff Wendell Hall and the men and women of his agency took part in the first annual "Family's Day Out" event presented by the Santa Rosa County Family Law Advisory Group during the celebration of Make a Difference Day. The event was to bring national attention to neighbors helping neighbors and a focus on improving communication and identifying needs among stakeholders in the community. The program is sponsored by the USA Weekend Magazine, 599 newspapers, Points of Light Foundation and actor-philanthropist Paul Newman. The sheriff's office had a exhibit booth manned by both deputies and crime prevention specialists that displayed methods and techniques of preventing the citizens of Santa Rosa from becoming victims of crime. Over thirty other exhibit booths were on display from agencies such as domestic violence, McGruff, the Santa Rosa Kid's House, Home Depot, and the Community Drug and Alcohol Council plus many more.
