The
Department of Detention is responsible for the operation of
the Santa Rosa County Jail. Our goal is to provide safe and
humane care to all who are incarcerated. We have a facility
with a rated capacity of 506 inmates. We operated the facility
24/7 with a professional staff of sworn detention deputies,
civilian support staff and licensed medical personnel.
A detention facility
is a community within a community. Therefore, we operate much
like the community in which we live. We provide health, education,
medical, spiritual, and rehab programs to those incarcerated.
We offer training in vocations that can assist an individual
once they are released from custody. GED certificates can
be obtained as well as certifications as food handlers. These
are tools that can help an individual gain employment upon
release.
Our inmate work crews
perform many duties that would otherwise be a cost to the
taxpayer such as maintaining the facility, grounds and building
projects. These duties benefit county agencies, the community
and other non-profit organizations.
The
facility was constructed in 1997 and has state of the art
technology. We operate under the guidelines of the Florida
Model Jail Standards as well at the Florida State Statutes.
Our agency is inspected annually to ensure compliance.
