PRESS RELEASE

2/28/08

Two People Arrested for Grand Theft from State Property In Milton

On 2/27/2008 at approximately 1500 hours, Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the 4600 Block of B-Lowery Road, Milton, FL, in reference to subjects that were trespassing on State property. The complainant, who lives nearby, told deputies that there was a pickup truck present in a clay pit that is used by the State and County Road Departments at the end of B-Lowery Road . The complainant said that two suspects left the clay pit with what appeared to be large amounts of aluminum in the bed of the truck. The complainant was able to get the license plate number of the truck as it left the area. Deputies located the truck in Milton and made contact with the owner of the truck, Jeffery Day, Jr. Day stated that he had just left Milton Iron and Metal located in Milton and had dropped off a load of scrap aluminum for money. Day was asked if he had permission to remove the scrap aluminum from the clay pit and he stated that he did not. A passenger in the truck was identified as Trevor Sullivan. Sullivan told deputies that he and Day had located the scrap aluminum while in the clay pit. Sullivan also stated that they didn't have permission to take the aluminum. Deputies checked with Milton Iron and Metal and found that the two subjects had sold 320 pounds of aluminum on 2/27/08 . The aluminum was cut into pieces with a cutting torch. Deputies located a small cutting torch inside of Day's truck that had been used to cut up the aluminum for removal from the clay pit. The clay pit is clearly marked with no trespassing signs. A supervisor with the State Road Department advised that the State wanted to pursue charges against the suspects. Both suspects were arrested for Grand Theft, due to the aluminum being worth approximately $1,000.00. Further charges are pending against the suspects for dealing in stolen property and trespassing on a construction site. Each suspect's bond was set at $5000.00. Three other individuals were arrested from the same clay pit on January 11, 2008 , also for stealing scrap metal. Photographs of the suspects are attached to this email.
