On
February 26, 2009 , the Santa Rosa County Board of Commissioners
presented a proclamation of support to members of the new countywide
SAFER Santa Rosa organization. SAFER (Support Alliance for Emergency
Readiness) was activated in May 2008. It is a volunteer program
with a local, community-based emphasis and a mission to strengthen
Santa Rosa County by establishing a system for businesses, non profits,
faith based organizations and government agencies to offer their
expertise, during all phases of disasters. Through collaborative
activities, networking and sharing of resources, this organization
will also be available to address major local emergencies (floods,
hurricanes, chemical spills, acts of terrorism, epidemics and other
large scale incidents.) By augmenting existing resources and response
systems in our communities, community recovery can be sped up and
the long-term economic losses that may occur can be minimized with
the assistance of this organization. Currently there are 83 members
of SAFER Santa Rosa including the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office,
the Santa Rosa Medical Center, the Baptist Association, Emergency
Management, and numerous other government, business, and faith based
organizations. The Board of County Commissioners of Santa Rosa County
along with current SAFER Santa Rosa members encourage local citizens,
employees and associates to give their time and expertise to the
Support Alliance for Emergency Readiness (SAFER) organization in
the service of the Santa Rosa County communities. For anyone interested
in becoming a member of this organization, please call 983-4606.
