Man Dead After Family Disturbance Leads to Shooting
A
pace man is dead after a family disturbance in Pace resulted in
a shooting. Shortly after 1:30
pm , deputies were dispatched
to 3907 Wiley Penton Road
in Pace after numerous
911 calls were received about a disturbance involving gunfire. When
deputies arrived, they observed Roy Carlton Barnhill Jr. (48 years
old) standing in the driveway of the residence near the street.
Deputies also observed a second subject, Roy Carlton Barnhill Sr.
(66 years old) lying face down, further down the driveway, with
what appeared to by gunshot wounds on his body. Barnhill Jr. was
immediately detained by deputies. Deputies and rescue personnel
found that Barnhill Sr. was deceased upon arrival. Santa Rosa County
Sheriff's Office investigators, Crime Scene personnel, and Medical
Examiner's Office Investigators arrived on scene to investigate
the crime. The initial investigation has revealed the following.
The elder Barnhill lives on the property were the incident occurred.
Barnhill Jr. also resides in Pace, but not at the address of occurrence.
The elder Barnhill had returned to the residence immediately prior
to the shooting. When he arrived, some type of disturbance took
place between him and Barnhill Jr. who was present at the house.
The disturbance ended in the elder Barnhill being shot near the
driveway. The details surrounding the situation are still being
investigated; however Barnhill Jr. was taken to the Sheriff's Office
for questioning. Barnhill Jr. has since been charged with an open
count of murder and is currently being held in the Santa Rosa County
Jail. Investigators are still out working this case at the time
of this release. A mug shot of Barnhill Jr. is not available at
the time of this release. No further information is known at this
time. More information will be released as it becomes available.
