PRESS RELEASE

Family Disturbance Leads to Meth Lab Bust in Milton

On 3/06/08 , Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the 4500 block of Arcadia Street , Milton , FL in reference to a family disturbance call. When deputies arrived and began to investigate, they noticed a coffee filter containing suspected methamphetamine and other items that are related to the manufacturing of methamphetamine. Deputies contacted narcotics detectives and they responded to the scene. Narcotics detectives confirmed that the substance in the coffee filter was methamphetamine. The filter had been place on top of a lamp shade in order to dry the methamphetamine during the manufacturing process. Detectives also found numerous containers, glass ware, and tubing that is used during the manufacturing of methamphetamine. Inside the master bathroom, they also located two gas generators which are homemade devices used to manufacture hydrogen chloride gas, digital scales, plastic baggies, pseudo ephedrine pills, camping fuel, and salt. All of these items are consistent with the production of methamphetamine. Detectives interviewed the suspect, Anthony Hopkins, concerning what had been found. Hopkins told deputies that he had cooked methamphetamine earlier that night. He then led detectives to a shed in the back yard, which revealed homemade condensers, tubing, ammonium nitrate, camping fuel, salt, and various other items used to produce methamphetamine. Detectives also recovered 118 grams of methamphetamine oil from the kitchen and laundry room area. The methamphetamine inside the coffee filter weighed 5 grams. Hopkins was arrested by detectives on the below mentioned charges. He is being held at the Santa Rosa County Jail on a $51,000.00 bond. Deputies ruled that the disturbance was a verbal disturbance and no acts of violence occurred. A photograph of Hopkins is attached to this email.
