Local Youths Honored
The 2nd Annual Youth Success Week ceremony has held on April 5th at the Families Count Center in Milton. Each year, the Santa Rosa County Juvenile Council honors students who chose the wrong path in life, but succeeded in turning their lives around to become better citizens. These students came from all walks of life and through hard work they were able to overcome adversities and to better themselves. The Honorable Judge Gary Bergosh, keynote speaker, was on hand to let the kids know how blessed they are to live in America and to have local mentors to guide them in their daily lives. Judge Bergosh, Debra Dougherty, of Family Count, and Chris Wells with Santa Rosa Schools presented each student with an award certificate and small gift. Organizations working with these children included the Department of Juvenile Justice, Families Count, Campfire USA; Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Lutheran Services; and numerous others. The event was sponsored by the Northwest Florida Prevention Coalition in partnership with the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office. Food and beverages were donated by the Shrimp Basket and other local retailers. For photos of the event click here.
