Health and Safety Event
The annual Health and Safety Event was held at the Blackwater Heritage Trail and encompassed a 3/4 of a mile walk by attendees who visited various health and safety displays. All along the way citizens were encouraged to exercise while picking up educational information. McGruff, the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office crime dog was also on hand to spend time with the children. He is featured along with some of the crash dummies that emphasized safety to both children and parents alike. The Sheriff's Office presented a Crime Prevention Display table partnering with Tobacco Free Coalition member Julie Klein of the Department of Health. They were also joined in another partnership with SW Panhandle Search and Rescue Team members Michelle Coyne, Ashley and Emily Coyne and Emotional First Aid Therapy K9, Zeus (an 11 pound mini dachshund.) During searches, when human remains are found, Zeus is brought on scene to add a touch of love for the family members present. He and the Jr. Cadets also go to Alzheimer Foundation facilities, nursing homes, and soon hope to visit the Ronald McDonald House to bring a smile to those in these facilities.
