Halloween Safety Tips

Sheriff Wendell Hall would like all citizens participating in Halloween activities to consider the following safety recommendations:

  1.   When buying or making costumes make sure they are made from fire-retardant materials.
  2.   Never use cotton sheets or pillow cases that can catch fire easily.
  3.   Avoid baggy or overlong costumes that children can trip or fall over.
  4.   Do not have children wear full face masks that may impair their vision.
  5.   Face painted masks are often best. Use glow sticks, flashlights, or reflective tape when Trick-or Treating.
  6.   Children should NEVER go Trick-or-Treating alone.
  7.   Children should only Trick-or-Treat at well lighted houses.
  8.   Children should NEVER go into a house.
  9.   Also, they should stay away from dark houses or alleys.
  10.   Parents should check all candy before it is eaten.
  11.   Throw away any candy that looks like it has been opened or tampered with.
  12.    Battery powered lights for Jack-O-Lanterns should be used instead of candles that can cause a fire.

Sheriff Hall and the members of the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office hope each and everyone of you have a Safe and Happy Halloween.
