UPDATE: PRESS RELEASE

The following information is being released by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office after conferring with FDLE. The identity of the deceased from last nights shooting incident on Tamarind Drive is Mark Delane Walker, W/M, 41 years old. Five deputies have been put on administrative leave due to the ongoing investigation. It is standard operating procedure for deputies to be placed on administrative leave when they are involved in a situation of this nature. The names of the deputies involved are not being released at this time.The deputies arrived on Tamarind Drive at 2115 hours in reference to a firearms complaint. The armed encounter with deputies occurred at 2154 hours (39 minutes after deputies first arrived on scene).Due to the ongoing nature of this investigation, no further information is being released at this time. All information released will be done by press release. Absolutely no further information is being released at this time. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

 

Armed Suspect Shot and Killed By Sheriff's Deputies in Pace

 

 

On July 18 th , 2010, at 2115 hours, Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office dispatch received two separate calls in reference to a firearms complaint occurring at 4472 Tamarind Drive , Pace , Florida . The callers stated that they had heard gunshots coming from a fifth wheel trailer located on the property. Numerous deputies arrived at that location a short time after the call came into dispatch. After arriving on scene, deputies confirmed that the suspect was armed after he encountered deputies while he was armed with a shotgun. (Further details concerning the event are not being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation) Numerous deputies fired their weapons at the armed suspect. The suspect was later declared deceased at the scene after entry was made into the trailer by SWAT. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is handling the investigation into the shooting. The identity of the deceased suspect is not being released at this time. The identities of the deputies involved in the shooting are not being released at this time. No further details are currently being released concerning the incident. As details become available and releasable, more information will be released. FDLE and Sheriff's Office personnel were still on scene as of 0600 hours on 7/19/2010.
