PRESS RELEASE

6/30/08

Man Arrested On False Imprisonment and Aggravated Assault Charges After Victim's Son Receives Text Message

On 6/28/08 at approximately 0120 hours, Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area of Quintette Road in Pace regarding a female that was being held against her will in a pick-up truck. The Escambia County Sheriff's Office had received a call from a subject that stated a white female was being held at gun point and was a passenger in a red pick-up truck that was traveling somewhere on Quintette Road. When Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office Deputies arrived, they observed a red Ford pick-up truck traveling eastbound on Quintette Road . The deputy waited for other deputies to arrive and then conducted a felony traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Phillip Bass, who was then taken into custody while deputies investigated the situation. The female passenger/victim was also identified and brought to safety, then questioned by deputies. IT was learned that the victim's juvenile son had received a text message from victim stating that she was being held against her will at gunpoint. The juvenile then contacted the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, who in turn notified the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office. The victim stated that she and Bass are involved in a domestic relationship and had been arguing inside the truck. The victim had asked to be let out of the vehicle and Bass allegedly refused. Bass also kept taking the victim's cell phone from her so that she couldn't use it to call anyone. The victim told deputies that she did in fact text message her son letting him know what was going on, and where she was at. A firearm was located inside the vehicle by deputies. Bass denied being in possession of the handgun or holding the victim against her will inside the truck. Bass, a convicted felon, was taken into custody for numerous charges (listed below). When Bass was told the nature of his charges, he became irate and began to kick the windows of the deputies patrol vehicle while he was handcuffed in the backseat. Bass was then further restrained and transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail. Bass is also facing charges in relation to this case by the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. A photograph of Bass is attached to this email. He is being held on a $60,000.00 bond.
